April 3: IMAGINE MORE

IMAGINE MORE

It is dark in my room when I get up

Around 4 o’clock in the morning.

Sleep has eluded me once again,

Rest no longer even a faint wisp of a beloved scent.

Whirling along frantically at hundreds of miles an hour

My mind is stuck in the painfully mundane.

Get up. Scroll through the phone. Pack Lunch.

Climb into the shower and step into the same ol’ same old.

Driving to work, sometimes singing along with Brandi;

Sometimes silent and dull with only the sound of the road beneath my feet,

And sometimes weeping ever so softly, I arrive at the nearly empty stone-cold building.

Another day. Just like all the others- 23 years worth.

What is next- where do I go, what shall I do?

Skittish angst desperately pushing at my worn seams,

There has to be a point, a raison d'être. Isn’t there?

What if we imagine more, so much more, and there is actually none?
