Still Love

This is a 30-day Poem Prompts by @beausia as seen on adrienne maree brown's Instagram that I've decided to join as my April 2024 challenge. I'm a day late, but the April 1st prompt is "Still Love."

Still Love

Hidden away, safe behind ample flesh

Stay still.

Trying to just be, under the radar.

Don't let them see you, don't let them touch.

Make them laugh, instead.

Dazzle them with photographs, stories, jokes and

Boxing dolls and tiny, breathlessly magical things.

Cat stories, dog videos, and baby raccoons.

Stay moving

So they can't ever know the inflexible pain.

Hearing aids off when it gets to be too much.

It's always too, too much...

Tucked meticulously, within a quiet little space

Heart beats a lonely rhythm of yearning.

Fading embers of hope and a dream

Swelling and shattering with no sound at all.

This insistent, insolent love with no place to go

No place to rest, no Home to nurture.

Still, and here-- a fragile possibility.

And it's love- always love.

Still, and so very lovely.
