Take a Trip

TAKE A TRIP
Springtime Wanderlust delivers a sharp wallop every year,
The yearning to shed my mundane life and for a week, take on another.
New spaces and surroundings, a sense of déjà vu teases the back of my mind.
It’s not Colorado.
Fresh faces, different patterns, unfamiliar settings to people-watch.
Slate wiped completely clean- they won’t know me, either.
Anticipation of possibilities, a chance to choose the other door- if only for a moment.
It’s not my life.
Lush springtime blooms- nothing like the hardy pops of colors back home.
A different breath of air, unfamiliar landscapes, even the ground feels somehow lighter.
The clouds in their skies are nothing like those that I know-
They are not lenticular.
Sitting at a table purposely facing the large scratched windows,
Sipping my soup and savoring the lovely crusty slice of warm freshly baked bread.
Watching humanity flow by, everyone on their way somewhere, each anchored in their own life.
It’s not different.
Driving through the last stretch towards the end of my annual escape-
In that magic hour before the sun sets.
Nostalgia grips my heart, the familiar softly calls my name.
It’s…home.
